The Brainerd Lakes Area offers a diverse range of fish species, including Bass, Walleye, Pike, and Muskies. The best times to visit are during the spring and summer when the water conditions are just right for a bountiful catch. However, in the fall, once the water temperatures start dropping and the leaves start changing colors, it is truly my favorite time to fish for trophy walleye!
For those looking for a bit more guidance or a guaranteed good time, consider booking one of our guided fishing trips. I have a few secret spots and I will help you hone your skills, whether you’re a novice or a seasoned pro.
Tips and Techniques:
- Best Bait: When fishing in Gull Lake, we recommend using leeches on slip bobber setups, as they have proven to be one of the most effective ways of targeting and catching walleyes hiding in or around the weeds or suspended. For a more active bite, it’s pretty hard to beat the “thunk” you feel when you snap a jig and rap.
- Technique Tips: Fishing along weed edges and drop-offs with a slip bobber, slow trolling a Lindy Rig using a minnow, or using a slow-death hook with a nightcrawler works great. In the evening, trolling or casting crankbaits in shallower water is always productive.
- Safety First: Always remember to check the local fishing regulations and weather conditions before heading out.
